iBogaine Therapy Vs Ayahuasca Brew
Quite often, we come across people asking us here at iBogaine Thailand... "So, what's the difference between the iBogaine and Ayahuasca Experience?
And secondly If I have to choose, which should I do?
In our opinion comparing Iboga and Ayahuasca is the most difficult part as the common ground for both of them are master plant medicines in their own right. However they are both also very different teachers in their own way and the experiences/life lessons they impart.
Ayahusaca is commononly refered as the non-addictive natural occuring dose of hallucinogenic DMT (Chucruna leaves) combined with MAO inhibiting vine (Banisteriopsis caapi) brew from the Amazon. Indigenous people traditionally use ayahuasca, also known as yagé, in healing ceremonies. It is not what you would call a recreational 'trip'. The word ayahuasca comes from the Quechuan Indian words aya ("spirit," "ancestor," or "dead person") and huasca ("vine"). Together these words refer to the "vine of the soul" or "vine of the dead", a vine that reportedly can free the soul or spirit. The foul-tasting brew, made from cooking up two, synergistically-acting plants, induces vomiting and excretion as a preface to its psychedelic and detoxification effects. According to reports from vogayers, the visions can range from punishing to sublime. Personal issues and private traumas become transparent during the trip. The sensations can range from cosmic insignificance to an ecstatic connection with the living world. With the strong correlation between natural DMT release during physical death and REM sleep from the Pineal gland, DMT seems to be a gateway to the realms beyond the physical dimension. People have reported mind-blowing and magical introduction to an infinite cosmic consciousness made of loving souls interested in our well being during their Ayahuscca journey.
Ayahuasca experience arrives with a warm buzz, brings the fireworks, a purge, and then 8-10 hours later a peaceful connectedness that allows you a full night’s sleep. Anthropologist Jeremy Narby claims scientists who have used the substance have experienced sudden, remarkable insights into long-standing research problems. One shouldn’t think of ayahuasca brew as a ‘cure all,’ something you only need to drink a few times and you are cured. Many testimonals suggests the brew could help treat depression, chronic addiction and fear of mortality. In people with less-defined diagnoses but a hunger for something missing say that ayahuasca offers something ineffable: compassion, connectedness, spirituality.
On the other hand, iBoga is a plant teacher known as the "Godfather"; a life transforming plant medicine. iBogaine is an isolated active alkaloid from the root bark of the central West African shrub Tabernanthe Iboga. Some consider Iboga as the most powerful detox and spiritual exploration plant in the world. For thousands of years, the Bwiti tribes in central West Africa have used Iboga for their initiations, spiritual practices and healing ceremonies. Its properties as a treatment to stop opiate withdrawal were unknown until the late 1960's. Since that time, studies undertaken by leading research and academic facilities have shown that Ibogaine is an effective addiction interrupter for most substances including heroin, methadone, methamphetamine, cocaine, alcohol, and nicotine.
The journey with iBoga is an inner one. Our (spiritual) ego is often very attached to our personal story and our ‘insights’ and ‘wisdom’. iBoga is not interested in you or your story. It will bring you back to your true nature, which is quiet and still. Some describe this as the 'defragmentation of your hard disk; removing software and bad blocks you no longer needed'.
During an Ibogaine experience you are acutely aware of the physical discomfort of the body. Once this process is complete, no further use of Ibogaine is necessary for chemical dependence patients. iBogaine functions in a similar way to treatments that block or take residence in the opiate and dopamine receptor sites that normally harbor chemical substances. During a ibogaine journey, one will experience rapid heart rate, persistent nausea, intense dizziness, increasing ataxia, buzzing in the ears, and hear the 'stern voice of a father' – iBoga will very bluntly explain to you how you have been f**king up, and tell you to shape up! And for many of us, that may sound like our harsh loving dad giving us direct and literal life lessons, but really it is just your true self trying to get your mind in line with what would be best for your destiny. The effects of ibogaine treatment usually last 24-36 hours strong. Its quite comon that there were some people who didn’t sleep for 3 days after taking Iboga. After the treatment people feel reborn. The dopamine and serotonin levels go to normal to high level and the brain experiences great joy like no other. Even normal food tastes so good, just feels like the first time you've ever tasted it. Especially fruit!
So the million dollar question remains : If I have to choose, which should I do?
In our opinion, the question should be, which should I do FIRST instead?
Because if you are going to make the commitment to explore the depths of your mind, soul, and the infinite universe, both of these plant medicines are the best things you can do for yourself. Here are some tips that one may consider deciding which experience to do, given that both journey will need a investment of time and monetary resources. We have written a list of questions that will help you to differentiate your decision betweeen iBoga and Ayahuasca.
1. Do you have an addiction problem, eating disorder, or self-limiting mental issue? If the answer is Yes, then iBoga for sure. Ibogaine alleviates physical withdrawal symptoms of opiate detoxification by resetting and refreshing the opiate receptor sites with one treatment.
2. Would you prefer to know the answers to your questions, or feel & see the answers to your questions? To know, choose iBoga—To feel and see choose Ayahuasca.
3. Do you want an experience unlike anything you can find in this physical plane. Something wholly other(s)? Choose Ayahuasca.
4. Do you want to make peace/communicate with deceased family members/friends? Choose iBoga.
5. Is your mind the root of your physical illness or your body? For mind, choose iBoga, for body choose Ayahuasca (except in the case of physical drug dependency, for which iBoga is an expert)
